2014, good and bad points

The first thing that I want to say is that this year have passed really fast.

This year began with the holidays when I went with my family to Brasil, it was so nice. Another good thing that happened is that my dog Tara arrived to my home, now it was 7 moths. In the past year I have had a few good subjects in the university, in fact it has been a very boring year related with the academic matters. Despite of the boring subjects it has had interested subjects like Developmental Psychology or Theories and Systems. I did well in all the subjects but I didn't thing that was a good year.  Nevertheless I have taken classes of Mapuche where I have learnt about their culture and language. Besides in the first term I practised volleyball in the university but I let it beacause I'm so lazy.

I don't remember now something that don't go so well this year, but I'm sure that something happened. I think I don`t have an specifically achievement this year, I think it have been a good year in some ways and not so good in other ways.

Some things that I didn't done the past term were sports. At the beginning of this term I said: I have to do sports or go to the gym, nevertheless I haven't done anything yet.

An important new is that I am planing with my friends a trip to Bolivia and/or Peru, we don't define it yet.

Art

How green am I?

The environment care is a matter that today is on everyone's lips, but I think that people, in our country, don't do a lot of things to care it. Many countries are stimulating the eco-practices in order to care the environment. The eco-practices are learnt by people in school, television, etc.

In my home we don't recycle a lot of things because we are so lazy, but we keep the plastic bottles and glass bottles to Thursday when the recycling truck go to pick things that could be recycled.

I live near of the university so I am coming in my bike at least 3 times at week, the other days I come in bus. This semester I am participating in a organization related with the environment. We won two competitive funds which are to build a vegetable patch in the "Oranges yard"in the faculty of Social Science, and the other fund will be used to install bins for recyclable material.

I think I have not worried about my carbon footprint, so I'm going to be responsible for it.

My Future Job

Hi classmates!
If you ask me about what kind of job I would like to have I obviously think about something related with my career. I'm in second year of Psychology and in third year I will choose an area where I will want to develop. This career have a lot of areas where it can be used. When you are a phychologist you can work in education, in a company, with patients in a hospital, etc. In fact you can work in every place where people are involved. I don't know in where area I want to work yet, but I can talk about one possibility.

If I would work in a clinical area of psychology I want that it will be in a small town, preferably in the south of our country. I would like to help the people who are forgotten in the end of the world. I wish it will be outdoors but I think that the most part of this job is indoors, nevertheless, some things could be different from is usually used.

Notwithstanding the above, I want to travel around the world, specially around América, knowing differents cultures, differents ways to live or do things and people.

The best holidays

I had a lot of good holidays, nevertheless there are one that I remember with happiness. I think that it was in 2011 when I had a holidays very tiring but beautiful too. This year I went to the north of Chile, specifically to Bahía Loreto which is near of Caldera. I was there with my parents, brother, grandparent, uncles and cousins for a 2 weeks. In this weeks we went across a few cities, towns and places that are near of us, so I visited Copiapo, Caldera, Pan de Azúcar, etc. We went to a lot of beaches where we swam, played different things and took sunbath, we ate a lot of seafood.

Then, when we have to came back to Santiago my father proposed continuing the holidays in other place. My mother, brother and I agreed with him and I proposed going to a place that we already visited called Conguillio. Conguillio is a national park located in the montain of the Eighth Region. We went there for a 1 week I thing, I don´t remember very well. There we stayed at a very beautiful camping side which is surrounded by a hundred of Araucarias. We went across the park which is very big and took a lot of pictures. Besides we did trekking when my cousin arrived to Conguillio.

This holidays were the best because I knew a lot of new places that I didn´t know, I travelled a lot, did a lot of things and admired  beautiful views.

Movies

Hi classmates. Today I'm going to talk about movies...

Well, I really like to watch movies, I've watched a lot of movies but there are a lot of them that I have not watched yet. When I was a child I watched a movie that I loved, it was Lion King. This movie is famous because is one of the typical kid's movies of Walt Disney Pictures. Lion King is a film that shows the life of a pride of lions and other animals, and the growth of the lion cub, Simba, who was the sun of the king Mufasa. Simba have to lead with the death of his father and with his uncle. I still love this film.

I like to watch movies at home and in the cinema, but if you ask me what I prefer I answer you that it depends of the movie. In the cinema you can see the film in a big screen with an spectacular sound, but you are with a lot of people and sometimes you are uncomfortable in your sit. Watching movies at home is more comfortable and you can eat everything you want, but the images are not the best and the sound is not spectacular. I prefer the cinema when I want to see an action or suspense movie, but if I want to see something romantic, comical or dramatic I prefer home.

One of the last movies that I watched and I enjoyed was The Experiment, where Forest Whitaker and Adrien Brody star. The film is about an experiment, of course, where a group of persons were separated in prisoners and police officials in a prison. The roles was given randomly. They had to live like it was a real prison for a few days, but they didn't have a lot of rules. Suddenly the guys took their roles seriously, specially the officials, and then... you have to watch it. I recommended it because it's a great movie with a lot of psychological action. 

A country I would like to visit

There are so many countries that I would like to visit. Every country has its own charm and history, and you can do different things depending of a lot of factors. Some factors could be the climate, the geography and the culture. For example if you go to Brasil you have to go to the beach, but if you go to Russia you probably freeze. But the country that really would like to visit is Italy.

Italy is country located in the west side of Europe. It's an old country with a lot of history in its lands. I really would like to visit this place because I want to know the stories that this country has, visit a lot of historical places and buildings. Italy has buildings or monuments which are known for everyone like Roman Coliseum, Tower of Pisa, etc. Besides it has beautiful cities like Venice which has houses constructed above rivers, has a lot of bridges. I would visit all this beautiful places and another places that native people of there suggest me to visit. Also I would take a lot of pictures of every pretty thing I see, I would talk with the people that live there to know the reality that they have.

I would like to study, work and live there. Every possibility that I have to go there I will take because it's a beautiful country with so many things to know, eat, see and enjoy. 

Ping Pong

Well, firstly I have to say that I love play ping pong. I was playing this sport in the afternoon on the table that is located inside the Faculty. I was playing with my friends and we were doing it for a long time, maybe a few hours. We are really fans. I don´t remember well if we were playing singles or doubles matches. The point is that in one moment my opponent hit the ball near of the net, so I had to run to the table in order to hit the ball to the other side, but I got so closer that I fell on the table and one of the table legs broke. We were laughing for a long time and we still laugh when we remember that episode. It was a good and a bad experience at the same time-. Now the leg is still broke but people can play ping pong yet. I'm sorry 

A great movie!

Today I'm going to talk about a movie that I saw the last Friday. Since the last year I wanted to watch a movie called "The impossible" and finally I watched it. The impossible is a spanish movie which talks about the experience of a spanish family in the Southeast Asia tsunami in 2004. In the movie the characters was interpreted by not spanish actors .

In the principle of the movie the family was in a hotel at the beach of Thailand when the tsunami arrived. We can see strong images of the high waves and the force of those waves. The waves took everything that was in front of them, including lives. The images afflict and affect you because you know that it really happened. I consider that the movie reflects very well the aid granted by the native people. The beaches were full of tourists and the native people help carried them to safe places and gave them urgent medical care.

I don't go to tell you the final of the movie because you have to watch it, it's worth it. The impossible is an amazing movie that makes you suffer and cry a lot. 

An Humanistic Guy

Today I'm going to talk about an expert in my career. You know that I'm studying Psychology, so I chose Abraham Maslow.
Maslow was an american psychiatrist and psychologist who did a lot of contributions in the area of psychology. Maslow was one of the founder of the Humanistic Psychology, which was the third force in the american psychology. He said that humans have an innate tendency to develop all their potentialities and abilities, which he called self-actualization. He thought that a human is integrated, therefore if something affect one system of him all systems are going to be affected. Maslow based his theory in the needs of each individual. He made a hierarchy of needs that everyone have to satisfy to the personal development. The humanistic therapy have the objective that each person reach the self-actualization and be an integrated person.
I found out about him in the school when my teacher of philosophy teach us about psychology and I heard about him again in the second semester of my career. 
I describe his theory and his contributions with a general focus and few words, I expect that you understand me. 
  

Memories

Today I'm going to talk about the memories. I think that the memories are very important in the life of any one. Sometimes you are living a moment that you want to remember for a long time, want to keep the feelings that you are having. But sometimes we forget. Our memory is fragile, some people say. Maybe is not fragile but just select other things and don't select the information that we want. 

Remember the good time that you spent with your loved ones or remember how you felt in a specifically moment can help you to think something otherwise, to confront a problem with another point of view. Sometimes the memories remind you the importance that some persons have in your life or how you want do something again. 

That is why I think that pictures of the moments and the writing are so important to help us to remember. See the pictures bring us to the particular moment when it was taken, and read exactly how we felt in a situation sometimes makes you feel it again. Capture the moment to not completely forget it.

In the middle of nowhere

This picture was taken in February 2013 by my brother when we were on vacation. That summer my cousins, my brother and I went to San Pedro de Atacama and to Uyuni, Bolivia. We went from Chile to Bolivia in a car. The long trip was worth it.  

In the journey we entered in a national park of Bolivia, which has a lot of lakes. We were in the middle of the desert contemplating the beautiful landscape. High mountains, a lot of kilometres of desert and the absolute silence made me feel so small in the world, like a small dot in the universe. So I laid down in the earth and enjoyed the silence in the middle of nowhere. The picture shows the desert landscape where we were. I really like this picture because I remember the emotion of that moment. You have to visit that places some day, I recommended it.

Travelling

Today I'm going to write about the places that I visited and that I want to visit. I am fortunate to have visited a lot of places of Chile. My family and I have visited a different cities, villages and national parks in the north as well as in the south of our country. Besides we have traveled to 3 different American's countries which are Argentina, República Dominicana and Brasil. 

Nevertheless there are a lot of beautiful places that I really want to visit. For example I really want to travel to the extreme south of Chile where there exist many little islands, where few people live. The natural landscape would be amazing and so beautiful.

In addition  I want to go to other countries of America as well as of other continents. I really want to visit Perú and specifically Machu Pichu because of there is a beauty full of culture, history, nature and mystic. It would be an astonishing landscape. I want to visit Cuba too, not with a touristic view but with the view of someone that live there. Another place that I want to go is Europe, go to England, Italy, Finland, Germany,etc. Europe has architecture so ancient, it keeps the castles and old's building that have so much history impregnated.

Of course I want to travel around the world and visit hidden places in different countries but the places that I have mentioned are those which I remember now.

Technology

Hi guys, today I'm going to talk about my favorite technological object. Firstly I want to say that technology really consumes us and we don't notice it. For example, we are using a mobile not to make calls but to play games or to use applications many hours a day. Nevertheless we love many technological objects and we think we can´t live without them. 

My favorite piece of technology is my mp3 player. I really love music and I like so many songs. I think that music transmits a lot of things and helps you in different moments. It accompanies you in your feelings. My mp3 player have all the music I like and that's why I love my mp3 player. I use this little piece of technology every day when I'm walking or watering the grass, in the bus or in my house. I use it too when I'm sad or when I'm glad, there are a song for any mood. When I was 13 years old I get my first mp3 player, it was broken and then my parents bought me a new one that I keep until today. It is very important for me because it contains all my music, and without it I will not remember the name off every song that I like and I couldn't listen music in every place that I'll want. 

This year...

Well, I'm now in the second year of my study and the subjects that I'm doing are a little easier than last semester. However, I have had to read more than last semester in less time. I like to read but sometimes the texts that the teachers make me read are not so interesting. This semester I have 7 subjects including English. I think that the subject that is going to be difficult for me is Neurophysiology because it have a lot of biology. This year I am practicing volleyball in the FACSO's team two times a week. It´s a really good sport. I expect that this years will be a interesting one, academically and personally speaking. I hope to pass all my subjects, but I hope to hang out with my friends and have a very funny year.

My name is Catalina Paz Aravena Guerra. As you can notice my full name contains opposite concepts, Paz that means peace and Guerra that means war. I was born in Santiago on December 16th 1994, so I'm 19 years old. My family is composed for 4 persons, my parents, brother and I; and 2 pets, a cat and a dog. My brother is older than me for almost 2 years. I studied for 14 years in the same school. In there I met my best friends and I hope conserve them for the rest of my life. Now I'm studying Psychology in the university. My favorite hobby is play guitar, I learned to play it alone, searching videos on Youtube and trying so hard. Sometimes I search songs on the internet and I play it, but I play my own songs too. Another thing that I love is travel and visit new places. Fortunately, my family and I has known a lot of different places, so I'm very happy.
